British War Medal	McMillan, William (b.1887, d.1977)	Circa 1919	The obverse of this medal shows the uncrowned left-facing profile of King George V by Sir Bertram Mackennal. The reverse of the medal depicts St George on horseback trampling underfoot the eagle shield of the Central Powers, and a skull and cross-bones (the emblems of death). Above, the sun has risen in victory. The figure is mounted on horseback to symbolise man's mind controlling a force of greater strength than his own, and thus alludes to the scientific and mechanical developments and machines which helped to win the war. The ribbon consists of an orange watered centre, with thin stripes of white and black at each side, and borders of royal blue. On the side is stamped "67947 Pte. J Rosie. NZEF" Mr James Rosie was a carpenter for Frank Crawshaw.

Victory Medal	McMillan, William (b.1887, d.1977)	Circa 1919	The obverse of the medal depicts the standing figure of Victory holding a palm branch in her right hand and stretching out her left hand. On the reverse of the medal is a laurel wreath containing a four-line inscription: "THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919". The dates are '1914-1919' to include post-war intervention by the Allied nations in the Russian Civil War. The medal is yellow bronze and is attached to the ribbon by a ring. The ribbon is watered silk with a double rainbow, with indigo at the edges and red in the centre. "67947 Pte. J. Rosie N.Z.E.F." is stamped on the side.

The obverse shows the uncrowned effigy of King George VI, facing left, with the legend "GEORGIUS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP." The reverse has the inscription "FOR SERVICE TO NEW ZEALAND 1939-1945" above a fern leaf. Ribbon black with white edges. This medal was issued to J. Belcher.
Pacific Star Medal			This bronze six-pointed star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed 'The Pacific Star' The centre of the ribbon is dark green (symbolising the jungle) with a central yellow stripe (symbolising the beaches). On the outer edges are wide stripes of red (representing the Army), with narrow stripes of dark blue and light blue (representing the Navy and Air Force) between the stripes of dark green and red. This medal was issued to J. Belcher.

1939-1945 Star Medal		1939-1945	This bronze six-pointed star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed 'The 1939-1945 Star'. The ribbon has three equal vertical stripes of dark blue, red and light blue. The dark blue stripe symbolises the service of the Navy and the Merchant Navy, the red stripe symbolises the service of the Army, and the light blue stripe symbolises the service of the Air Force. This medal was issued to J. Belcher.
War Medal 1939 - 45		1939-1945	The War Medal 1939-1945. Silver. On the obverse of this medal is the effigy of King George VI. On the reverse is a triumphant lion trampling on a dragon symbolising the Axis powers. The ribbon is the red, white, and blue of the (British) Union Flag. There is a narrow central red stripe with a narrow white stripe on either side. There are broad red stripes at either edge, the two intervening stripes being blue. This medal was issued to J. Belcher.
