1920
New Woollen Mills, Oamaru established 1920. Caption information for the Oamaru Woollen Mills complied by Max Smyth (a local photographer) reads as follows: "The old mill, across the railway, commenced work in August 1883. The buildings were extended from time to time - e.g. office and warehouse 1894; worsted plant 1905. The safety of the buildings was threatened by erosion, and after the failure of various protective schemes, it was decided to shift to a new site. Starting in 1917, the transfer was carried out on a carefully planned scheme so that building, transfer of plant and demolition went on in stages. The process was virtually completed by 1920, and not a day's production was lost. Much of the old stone was used again. The former office building was left standing for many years, and the chimney stack was not felled until 1942. It is estimated about a third of the site is now in the sea."

Circa 1930
Construction of Marine Parade, Cape Wanbrow, c. 1930. " Cape Wanbrow itself offered a seafront of a much more dramatic character, hidden because of its inaccessibility. In 1929 a group of citizens led by W G Grave [Oamaru solicitor and explorer] began the work of constructing a track around the cliffs; later unemployed labour became available to complete the task. Grave died before it was finished, but when in 1935 the track was opened a tablet to his memory was unveiled at the entrance."

Caption reads: "The centre portion of the house was built in 1856 and occupied by Mr and Mrs Thomas Ferens in 1857. The room on the south side of the original home was built in 1862 and used as the school room for many years. Three governesses, Misses Kate Kennard, Goldie and Mrs Lee (nee Swift of Melbourne) later married W F Kinnear
of Oamaru. The new wing of two storeys was built in 1865 by W B Scandrett, carpenter, and the chimney by Robert Meek, stonemason. Mr Scandrett later became town clerk of Invercargill and afterwards mayor for several years. Mr Robert Meek later was a farmer in the Waiareka Valley. He sold out in the 1880s and bought a large farm at Fairfax. He also erected limestone works and did general farming. He died there.
