Severn Street. "Staff of T & P Milk Coy's [Taieri and Peninsula] Oamaru factory before my time. Second from left is my predecessor [sic] and on left Russell Laurenson son of Jim L our cartage contractor. He was manger of the Vacuum Oil Coy in Dunedin when the T & P ceased operations and he offered me a job as a salesman with them. I would have liked to accept the offer. He was later General Manager for NZ and a District Governor for Rotary. He was well known as a singer. The other tall chap in dark suit is the factory manager. The truck and the shape of the cans seem to date this a good while before I went there." Construction of Marine Parade, Cape Wanbrow, c. 1930
Circa 1930
Construction of Marine Parade, Cape Wanbrow, c. 1930. " Cape Wanbrow itself offered a seafront of a much more dramatic character, hidden because of its inaccessibility. In 1929 a group of citizens led by W G Grave [Oamaru solicitor and explorer] began the work of constructing a track around the cliffs; later unemployed labour became available to complete the task. Grave died before it was finished, but when in 1935 the track was opened a tablet to his memory was unveiled at the entrance."
