Fallen Trooper's Memorial. Unveiled 2 February, 1905. The cost of L1,700 was largely raised through the efforts of W G Grave, a master at Waitaki Boys' High School. (Grave later became a well-known solicitor in Oamaru.)

Memorial Oak Cross and Plaque

A wooden cross with a rectangular copper plaque associated with the memorial oaks scheme commemorating local soldiers who died during World War One.
The cross is made from thick timber, appears to have been painted white originally. Top of post is slightly pointed. Cross piece is short and narrow. The copper plaque is nailed to the cross piece by way of six flat head nails. On the face of the post below the plaque is a square headed nail. "SERGT A McPherson // KILLED IN FRANCE // 1918" |
