Items used to prepare microscope slides, especially diatom slides.

They are as follows:
Circular cardboard canister of filament like objects 'bristles' on label, contains rats whiskers used to move diatoms when mounting microscope slides.
Tissue wrapped bundle of seven pieces of gauze like material of different sizes and one piece of dark coloured velvet.
Glass dish with lid.
Three white and one cream chine dishes.
Purple cardboard box and contents "1 OZ MICROSCOPIC GLASS CIRCLES 1 1/8 In. No. 1".
Green cardboard box and contents "THIN GLASS 1g No 1 5/8" R & J BECK LONDON & PHILADELPHIA".
Red cardboard box and contents "No. 1 MICRO. COVERS 7/8" CIRCLES 1/2 OUNCE".

Caption reads: "The centre portion of the house was built in 1856 and occupied by Mr and Mrs Thomas Ferens in 1857. The room on the south side of the original home was built in 1862 and used as the school room for many years. Three governesses, Misses Kate Kennard, Goldie and Mrs Lee (nee Swift of Melbourne) later married W F Kinnear
of Oamaru. The new wing of two storeys was built in 1865 by W B Scandrett, carpenter, and the chimney by Robert Meek, stonemason. Mr Scandrett later became town clerk of Invercargill and afterwards mayor for several years. Mr Robert Meek later was a farmer in the Waiareka Valley. He sold out in the 1880s and bought a large farm at Fairfax. He also erected limestone works and did general farming. He died there.

First courthouse building, Thames Street (next to Athenaeum), c. 1902. Used for worship by the Church of Christ (as the City Temple) from 1895 to 1911. Courthouse completed early 1863. Replaced by new building further north in 1883. The first courthouse was vested in the Mechanics' Institute in 1882 for use as a museum, but used for other purposes ( e.g. a church and, later, sample rooms) when leased with the authority of the museum committee from 1895. Eventually used as a museum again from 1953 to 1973 as the North Otago Pioneer Gallery. Demolished in 1974 to make way for the new Oamaru Public Library.

William Hugh Paterson's residence, Arthur Street. Built in 1910, this two-storeyed Oamaru stone house originally had 14.5 hectares of land with it. It was purchased by the Salvation Army in 1959 and known as Glenside Lodge.
