The Ariadne, ship wrecked a few miles south of the Waitaki River 24 March, 1901. Built in 1874 (230 tons reg), the Ariadne had a crew of twelve, who escaped safely.
On 31 October 1901, Captain George Mumford, T C Kerry (owner) and E J H Freke were charged in the Christchurch Magistrates Court with casting the ship away and conspiring to defraud the underwriter, Lloyds. |
