The medal is round and made of silver. The obverse of the medal depicts a Royal Crown superimposed over a crossed sword and sceptre and surrounded by fern fronds. The reverse bears the inscription FOR LONG AND EFFICIENT SERVICE. The medal's suspension is a ring, which passes through a loop fixed to the top of the piece.The medal is suspended from a ribbon crimson in colour with two central white stripes (this medal would have originally been issued with a plain crimson ribbon.)

Silver Dux Medal. In the shape of a Maltese cross. The back of the medal is engraved "SOUTH SCHOOL OAMARU" The front centre is engraved LILLIE MORELEY DUX 1889. Lillie Moreley started school on the 21/9/1881 and finished 25/2/1892. The medal can be hung or worn like a badge. The pin is missing and the keeper is bent.

There are two pieces of correspondence with the medal.

The Volunteer Long Service Medal in silver with a raised rim on each side. It is suspended from a straight swivelling silver bar, affixed to the medal by means of a claw and a pin through the upper edge of the medal.

The obverse of the medal depicts the effigy of Queen Victoria wearing the Crown, a veil and the Star of the Order of the Garter. The effigy is circumscribed "VICTORIA REGINA".

The reverse shows a palm and laurel wreath that supports a scrolled banner bearing the inscription "FOR LONG SERVICE IN THE VOLUNTEER FORCE" in four lines.

The medal's ribbon is plain dark green.

Crimean War medal. The medal consists of a silver disk with, on the obverse, the diademed head of Queen Victoria and the legend VICTORIA REGINA with the date 1854 below. The reverse has a depiction of a standing Roman warrior about to receive a laurel crown from a flying figure of victory, the word CRIMEA appearing on the left.

The medal is notable for its unusually ornate clasps. Each is in the form of an oak leaf with an acorn at each end, a style not used on any other British medal. The clasps are named, from the top: Sebastopol, Inkerman, Alma'. The ornate, floriated, swivelling suspender is also unique to the Crimea Medal.

The ribbon is discoloured but was originally pale blue with yellow edges.

On the edge is 'Peter Fitgerald 2285 REGT'.

Belonged to Peter Fitzgerald or Fitgerald, of Georgetown. Peter died on 4 December 1887 aged 55. He was from Kildare, Ireland and is buried in the Georgetown cemetery. Peter's widow was looked after by Mary McAuley, a young local girl. Mary was given this medal by the widow. Mary later married and became Mary McPhie.

The War Medal 1939-1945. Silver. On the obverse of this medal is the effigy of King George VI. On the reverse is a triumphant lion trampling on a dragon symbolising the Axis powers. The ribbon is the red, white, and blue of the (British) Union Flag. There is a narrow central red stripe with a narrow white stripe on either side. There are broad red stripes at either edge, the two intervening stripes being blue.

Awarded to donor’s father Ivan McDonald.

A silver medal with attached loop and ribbon. The obverse features conjoined half-length busts of King George V and Queen Mary wearing crowns and robes of state; around, GEORGE . V . AND . QUEEN . MARY . MAY . VI . MCMXXXV. The reverse has a crowned monogram GRI (Translation - George King and Emperor) with the dates of his reign at either side, MAY 6 1910 May 6 1935.

The ribbon is purple with three narrow stripes of dark blue, white, and dark blue at each edge.

This medal was presented to W.H. Frith, a former Mayor of Oamaru.

B = Triangular folded piece of pale blue moiré ribbon.
