Large framed crewel embroidery of a sailing ship surrounded by flags and topped by a crown with "V R". In a banner at the very top is "ADVANCE NEW ZEALAND". This is surrounded by flowers. Stitched bottom left corner: "Design & work by E. Butt Late Royal Navy". This embroidery won a first prize at the Dunedin Exhibition 1889/90.
