St. Luke's church and the town hall prior to the spire and clock tower respectively. The Athenaeum and Mechanic's Institute on the corner of Steward Street. Next door people are on the steps of the Pioneer Gallery building, and part of the Oamaru Gaol is visible next to that.

Mr W J Wylie was employed by Joseph Moss in 1889. He became a partner of Moss and, eventually, sole owner. (Wylie married Moss' daughter.) He retired in 1954 and was succeeded by E A Ballantyne. The hairdressing and tobacconist's business in the shop at right is not identified.
