A skirt and jacket. Worn in 1871 when Martha McNab married Robert Gray at Pukeuri.

A = Skirt. Brown striped taffeta, with cotton tape waistband. The material is a light chestnut with vertical stripes of dark brown flanked by gold. At the bottom is attached a 110mm wide ruffle of material which has been press pleated ( ie it has not been sewn ). At the very edge of the skirt is a burgundy cotton tape. There is one side pocket. The skirt has two metal hooks and eyes on the waist band, but that is all, there does not appear to have been any fastening. Lined with a hay coloured starched cotton.

B = Jacket. Rather long jacket, with a pulled in waist. The jacket is of the same material as the skirt, with brown velvet insets. There is an hour glass panel along the back. The collar is velvet, as are the inverted cuffs. The front panel is also velvet, a wider hour glass than the back. The front is fastened by two hooks and eyes at the collar and twelve wooden buttons. The jacket is lined with a brown cotton. The interior has a cotton tie.

An empire line dress.

a) The dress is full length with full length flared sleeves. The cotton fabric used for the dress is printed with an abstract design of trees in shades of brown, green, gold, purple, pink and pale blue. The dress fastens down the front with 16 metal buttons. There is a label in the neck of the dress. It reads "Made by Maritza Boutique Oamaru 1970's.".

b) scarf. A scarf made from the same fabric as the dress. Fringed at each end with pale yellow fringing.
