Janet Frame's typewriter.

The typewriter Janet Frame used to write her autobiographies. Brother Deluxe 1350 model.
A = Case. Grey vinyl carrying case. Interior is lined with grey and white fleck vinyl. The base has a small flap of vinyl at the back, for paper? There is a small loop of the vinyl, perhaps for a pen. In blue biro is written 'J CLUTHA'. In black is stamped 'Typewriter & Cas..- Made in Nagota, Japan'. At the back are four little back plastic feet, making the back also the bottom. Around the top is a zip, the end of the zip is a short length of metal wire. The strap handle is black plastic with both edges raised in silver coloured vinyl, the ends are silver. There is a white and green sticker 'Allied Pickford's PN 17 (inked) - Clinet Name Clutha (handwritten in black ink) - the careful movers'. Location OS 7D B = Typewriter. Small portable typewriter. 'brother Deluxe 1350' '.automatic repeat spacer'. Tab and repeat spacer button are red. Most of typewriter is white, area around keys is chocolate brown with the area just above the keys is plastic but looks like wood. On the top is a white paper label , torn J Cluth.., 40 Ru......, Levi... Janet Clutha lived in both Levin and Palmerston North. Janet Frame changed her name in 1958 to Janet Clutha. The typewriter was donated by the National Library of New Zealand after it had been on tour as part of the - An Inward sun: The World of Janet Frame exhibition.
