The following information is from a note that was donated with the item. Pottery Jar from Murphys Flat Chinese camp near Macraes. These were imported from China usually with Tiger Whiskey, a Chinese rice whiskey. |

An early O'Brien of a panoramic view across from Pukeuri Hill in 1872. Painted prior to the construction of the breakwater and the farming boom of the 1880s, the painting depicts a well ordered and tranquil rural scene with the small but growing Oamaru nestling in the lee of Cape Wanbrow. Three sailing ships are moored at the roadstead.
