My 2nd GGF. John Willetts (1834-1902) m. Juliana Elizabeth Morse (1844-1918). Both b. in Forest of Dean, Gloucs. Eng. John was a Miner there & in NZ. Emigrated to NZ 20/10/1863 on' TIptree' with wife & baby son, John Morris, aged 3 months. Opened the Prince Alfred coal mine near Big Hill, Papakaio, with a Mr Simms in 1869. In1892, nine coal pits or mines were operating in the North Otago district. The largest was operated by J.Willetts & J. Nimmo, both of Papakaio. Love and Willetts also operated a mine at Otepopo.
