Description
John Barraclough. Born Yorkshire 8 December 1827. Settled in Oamaru, March 1860. Died at Oamaru 14 June 1899 aged 73 years. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire where he learnt about wool. He married Harriet and they went to Victoria for a year before coming to New Zealand. Soon after he arrived in North Otago, being employed by Mr Hassell in the Waiareka Valley, he then set up business in his own right as a wool classer. Later he built the fellmongery at Maheno as well as building and occupying the Medora Hotel in Reidston. He retired to Meadowbank in Oamaru and purchased a farm at Waimotu which he leased, but eventually worked himself. (North Otago Early Settlers' Association, 1993) Photograph painted over in colour

This is my Great Great Grand Uncle and his wife. My paternal Grandmother was his great neice. Barraclough is also associated with clock making back in the UK. Fascinating family history
