Description
Itchen Street, c. 1890s (before 1899). From left: Dodds & Co, Chemist & Druggist. Star and Garter Hotel (1867-68); architect R A Lawson. Oamaru Coffee Rooms (formerly J G Flett's book store, 1871; architect Thomas Forrester). A Fraser, Bookseller; Australian Mutual Provident Society (formerly Hood and Shennan's premises; architects for alterations: Forrester and Lemon). Tees Street. The "Amicus" statue features the Latin motto: Amicus Certus in Re Incerta - "A certain friend in uncertain times".
