Description
Bisset's Butcher's shop, corner of Thames and Usk Streets, c. 1894.
On horse cart at left - Alex Sinclair. Mr A Bisset on horse in front of door. T Brookes on horse, holding stock whip. Duncan Bisset on cart at right. Dog sitting near cart. Pig heads on both carts. Man in doorway of Shamrock Hotel. A & D Bisset occupied the corner shop from about 1893 to 1896.
Family Grocer & Baker - the grocer's shop next door vacant at time of photograph (owned by J McDowell in the 1880s). Beyond were the premises of M McLoughlin, Dress & Mantle Maker (until 1897). The Shamrock Hotel at right was built in 1873; the licence was refused in 1893. This was later a boarding house.
