Description
Traill Roxby & Co., wool and general stores. Covered wagon, horses and carts.
A general store set up by Charles Traill and Eustace Wriothesley Roxby was one of Oamaru's earliest businesses. Built on a Tyne Street site purchased in 1859, it originally offered premium imports, achieved by the ability of the owners to obtain supplies from incoming ships with their own surf boats. This photograph was taken in 1865, by which stage they were one of North Otago's most successful and reputable firms.
