Box of Diatom Slides	1880s	Wooden box of diatom microscope slides. Some slides labelled with species names and diagrams. The box is hinged at the back with two hook catches at the front. The section with the catches on it is also hinged and lowers down flat. The contents are as follows.: A six slide holder with three slides one of which is broken. A six slide holder with six slides four of which are labelled. A six slide holder with six slides all of which are labelled. A six slide holder with six slides none of which are labelled. A six slide holder with six slides all of which are labelled. A six slide holder with six slides all of which are labelled.
Microscope Preparation Items	1880s	Items used to prepare microscope slides, especially diatom slides. They are as follows: Circular cardboard canister of filament like objects 'bristles' on label, contains rats whiskers used to move diatoms when mounting microscope slides. Tissue wrapped bundle of seven pieces of gauze like material of different sizes and one piece of dark coloured velvet. Glass dish with lid. Three white and one cream chine dishes. Purple cardboard box and contents "1 OZ MICROSCOPIC GLASS CIRCLES 1 1/8 In. No. 1". Green cardboard box and contents "THIN GLASS 1g No 1 5/8" R & J BECK LONDON & PHILADELPHIA". Red cardboard box and contents "No. 1 MICRO. COVERS 7/8" CIRCLES 1/2 OUNCE". Tracing wheel. Four objects, possibly wax, with a picture of a bull in the centre and "FABRICANTES ULLATHORNE & CO LONDRES" around the edge. Two pieces of metal rod welded together.
Box of Diatom Slides	Circa 1889	Wooden box of diatom microscope slides. The box is hinged at the back and has a hook and eye catch at the front. The front section with the hook on it is also hinged and lowers down. The contents of the box from the bottom up is as follows: An empty double slide holder. A double slide holder with slides "Diatoms Troublesome Gully Oamaru" and "Diatom Forrester's. A double slide holder with slides "Diatoms 14" and "6'. A double slide holder with slides "Diatom W B Oamaru Feb 89" and "Diatom W B Oamaru Feb 89". An empty double slide holder.

Chisel	1870s	Slater's chisel from Slate Quarries, Otepopo. Metal chisel with circular head and long blade.
Pieces of Slate		Slate from Mt. Dasher. The smaller piece of slate is split from the larger piece.
Lime Product Sample Quicklime	Circa 1970s	A glass jar with a metal lid containing white powder. The typewritten label reads: Sample burnt lime or quicklime. Calcium oxide CaO. From McDonald's Oamaru Lime Ltd. Weston. Employs fourteen men. Calcium Carbonated is crushed and mixed with coal and the powder pelletised and then burnt. The coal is burnt out of the pellet and removed CO2 (Aat 950oC) reducing calcium carbonate to calcium oxide. Burnt lime is used for mortar mixes and plastering, and in the manufacture of steel. Approx. 1000-1500 tons are used as burnt lime. Balance of production is converted by addition of water to become hydrated lime.
Lime Product Sample Agricultural Lime	Circa 1970s	A glass jar with a white metal lid containing white powder. The typewritten label reads: Sample of agricultural lime, calcium carbonate CaCO3 From Taylor's Lime Co. Ltd, Weston. Employs seven men. Quarries and crushed approximately 65,000 tons limestone annually. Sells approximately 50,000 tons of output for agricultural purposes and 15,000 tons of output for industrial use - to McDonald's Oamaru Lime Ltd.
Lime Product Sample Calcium Hydroxide	Circa 1970s	A glass jar with a white metal lid containing white powder. The typewritten label reads: Sample Hydrated Lime Calcium hydroxide. From McDonald's Oamaru Lime Ltd, Weston. Employs 14 men. This works manufactures about 70% of New Zealand's requirements of hydrated lime. Present output approx. 9000 tons. Used in freezing works in fellmongery departments, in manufacture of gelatine, in purification of raw sugar, in purification of city water supplies, in building industry for mortars and plaster work, in rubber works, in sprays for orchards.

Miner's Lamp	Circa 1940s	Kerosene metal miner's lamp "Premier. British made." From Ngapara Colliery and Kilns of Captain Nimmo. Lamp is missing glass.
Waiareka Basalt		Waiareka basalt sample. Gas vesicles with calcite, possibly zeolite and a black coloured mineral.
Volcanic Tuff		Piece of volcanic sandstone tuff from Cape Wanbrow, Oamaru. Volcanic ash cemented by calcite. From Deborah volcanics.
